Arrived Thursday Jan 3, 2013 at Belize Airport and flew to my destination, Placencia. The plane has eleven seats It was not as bad as I had anticipated.

The two large vessels in the distance are cruise ships docked outside Belize City. There are smaller boats that bring the passengers into the city for day trips.

Well guys, I made it finally to Belize. I was supposed to be here yesterday. I left Saint John at 6:10 a m on Wednesday and my plane was late arriving in Montreal so I was not able to connect with my Chicago flight and to late for another flight to Belize. I flew from Montreal to Toronto and then to Houston and Air Canada paid my hotel there and flew me out of Houston today on the 8:43 flight to Belize "First Class". I arrived at where I am staying at 1:30 p m.

I walked off the plane and was hit by a wall of heat. It was like standing next to a wood fire. It is very, very humid here, but a very nice welcome to the cold and snow I left behind. I did a little walk about, got some "BEER" and a few groceries and then went out for supper. I will update my day with photos soon. I do not seem to have a very good internet connection and will have to check that out tomorrow. Still a little tired from my two days of flying, so an early night so I can be bright eyed and bushy tailed tomorrow.

OK, so why Belize, one might ask? My reply, Why not?. Actually, I came across Belize after I googled cheap places to retire, if there ever is such a place. I searched the Internet, bought a couple of books and something about Belize keeps drawing me there. I really feel compelled to visit. During my searches I came across several blogs of Belize. Very interesting reads. Like a very good book, you get to know the characters, who they are, where they came from and why they have settled in Belize. My morning now consists of reading the Obits, Facebook, email and my favourite bloggers of Belize.

So here goes, I am going to Belize for the month of January 2013. Yes! I am so excited and yes, I am flying solo. Not unusual for me. In 1979 I flew to England solo as none of my friends wanted to travel or didn't have the money, or many other excuses. I ended up living in Yorkshire for two and a half years. Actually, when I moved back in 1981, it was the last time I was on an airplane. Previous to that, I did fly on a regular basis, on holidays. So that (flying) in itself will be exciting.

I had booked my accommodations last spring, that is how sure I was of going and now I have booked my flight. I will leave Saint John at 6:10 am and arrive Belize City at 4:16 pm. Sun and sand is beckoning me. I have decided to take you all with me on my journey. I will post daily, if possible, what I am doing, where I go, who I meet and what I have to eat or am cooking for myself. My accommodations have cooking facilities. I am doing Belize frugal, renting an apartment, cooking most of my own food and travelling the "Belize way", by bus or water taxi.

Perhaps, another reason why I want to go to Belize for the month of January.

So Here it goes, my first blog post. I am now an official Blogger. I will keep you posted up until my departure and then we will travel to Belize together. We're going to have fun.
